Insomnia is a sleep condition where the individual affected suffers from lack of sleep. There are both psychological and medical causes of insomnia which result in a lack of sleep. While the psychological factors that contribute to insomnia are plentiful, the medical causes of insomnia may actually be limited.
Medications Can Cause Insomnia
One of the medical causes of insomnia are medications and drugs which may b prescribed to the individual and even over the counter drugs, which the individual takes. Medication can be one of the causes of insomnia in children as well as adults. Some of the medications or drugs that can causes insomnia in some people are those with nicotine. Medical Conditions
Some medical conditions have also been pinpointed as some of the medical causes of insomnia in people. For example, such medical conditions found to be medical causes of insomnia are: hyperthyroidism, Parkinson’s disease, allergies, asthma, hypertension, arthritis and heart disease. Additionally, the pain and discomfort of an injury or any other condition which results in pain or discomfort to a person may be a medical cause of insomnia. A tingling feeling which need not be painful may also prevent a person from enjoying a good night’s rest.
Sleep apnea is also another of the many different medical causes of insomnia. Sleep apnea is a condition or breathing disorder which is characterized by a short cessasion of an individual’s breathing during sleep. As the body gasps for air when this happens, the individual may wake from the effort. Restless leg syndrome is also another cause of insomnia which can be attributed to the medical aspect of its causes. The aforementioned medical causes of insomnia are outnumbered by the possible psychological causes. These medical causes of insomnia may be more easily addressed than the various psychological causes of the condition. But the medical causes of insomnia in certain instances may also be difficult to correct as the underlying reason or issue must be addressed before the person may be cured.
