Do Home Cures for Insomnia Really Work?

Insomnia is an extremely common condition, one that affects men and women around the world. There are various factors that may be responsible for your insomnia if you are suffering from this condition, but a couple of the most common are stress, anxiety, depression, and some medications can end up causing sleeping problems such as insomnia as well. There are quite a few different options when it comes to finding a cure for insomnia, including food cures for insomnia, and there are also home cures for insomnia. The problem here is that most doctors do not advertise the home cures for insomnia and instead focus on prescribing patients sleeping pills and other medication, which can cause unfavorable side effects.

Do They Work?

Of course, just as with some medications, there are going to be some home cures for insomnia that may not work as well as you would like, but on the other hand there are many others that are quite effective, often times even more so than your basic medication.

Herbs

Herbs are the most common ingredient used to concoct home cures for insomnia. A few of the many herbs that would work well here include peppermint, rosemary, lavender, rose leaves, and lemon verbena. You can even take all of these and fill up your pillow cover with it so you smell it as you are lying in bed.

There are many herbal teas that you can use as home cures for insomnia as well, and you will want to check out your local health food store for these.

Other Tips

Other than using these types of home cures to take care of your insomnia, there are many other things that you can do to treat your problem and start getting better sleep. Changing your diet for instance will help, and you want to stop eating fatty and sugary foods and start incorporating more fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet, as well as whole grains and other foods that are high in fiber.

You also will need to start exercising more. This can definitely be hard to get started with because after all, if you are unable to sleep you are hardly going to feel as though you have the energy to hop up and do some jumping jacks. Exercise will actually end up making you more energetic, and will wear your body out so at the end of the day when you are trying to get sleep you will be more likely to.
